Now available from Vierra's Worm Farm
a Super Composting Nightcrawler!

Meet Wilber T. Worm, a true composting nightcrawler!
Wilber is also known as the "African Nightcrawler".

Wilber is 8 to 10 times larger than red worms.  There are approximately 260 worms to the pound, 2 to 3 inches long for composting.  This means 350 composting nightcrawlers can eat as much as 1000 red worms, and eat it faster!

Wilber is a great fishing and gardening worm, too!

NOTE:  Before ordering your worms for composting, your bin or box should be ready to accept the worms.  If worms box, lid should fit properly or  be covered with screen.  All vent and drain holes should be covered with a fine mesh screen to keep insects and flies out and to keep the worms in.  Most worms are great escape artists.  TEMPERATURE:  Your worm box should remain between 65 and 85 degrees.  Prolong temperatures below 55 degrees can be harmful even fatal to your worms!

WORM COCOONS

Worm cocoons are an economical way to add earthworms to your garden, compost pile, worm box, or lawn.  Earthworms play an important role in the creation of healthy, productive soils.  They feed on organic matter, leaving behind rich manure or “castings” that provide readily available nutrients for plants.  As they burrow through the soil, they leave behind tunnels that open up passageways for air and water.  The soil becomes loose, porous, and unsurpassed in fertility.

The worm cocoons are shipped in a moist medium of peat soil mix.  The cocoons are opaque, oval-shaped to a small point at each end, and very small, not much bigger than 1/8” in diameter.  Because the cocoons are moist, the soil particles will stick to them making them look like the particles of dirt.  They will be difficult, if not impossible to see.  Keep the cocoons in the plastic bag of moist medium until you are ready to introduce them to the garden or compost.  For best results, use your cocoons as soon as possible.  Worm cocoons can be introduced into your garden or compost at any time of the year, however the best time to introduce worm cocoons outside is during the warmth of spring and summer.

One quart can hatch out as many as 620 worms (or more)!

Adding cocoons to your compost pile or worm bin is simple.  Simply dig down a few inches and dump them in!  Keep them warm and damp (not soggy wet).  Your cocoons will start to hatch out in 2 to 3 weeks at 70 to 80 degree temp.

Adding cocoons to your garden is also simple.  Scatter the worm cocoons and medium over the top of the soil and gently rake them into the top 2-3 inches of soil.  Water the soil thoroughly and keep it moist.  Adding a layer of mulch will help to keep the cocoons moist and warm plus, provides food for the young worms.
